CrushOn.AI Review 2026: The No-Filter AI Companion

Okay, real talk — when someone on the team first dropped the link for CrushOn.AI in our Slack, half of us rolled our eyes. Another AI girlfriend app? We’ve seen them all. But after spending a few hours actually poking around on the platform, testing the chat, reading through character profiles, and yes, clicking every menu we could find… it’s more interesting than the name suggests. And also exactly what you’d expect from the name. At the same time.

Let me walk you through it.

What Even Is CrushOn.AI?

At its core, CrushOn.AI is an AI character chat platform — think character.ai but with the content filter turned firmly off. It’s built around a massive library of community-created AI personas you can chat with, ranging from tsundere anime girls to morally complex romance scenarios, to genuinely wholesome slow-burn storylines.

The company behind it is Techiepie Ltd, registered in Cyprus (and Delaware), and the platform is firmly 18+. It’s free to start with, though the free tier has some limitations we’ll get to in a bit.

Quick take: CrushOn.AI positions itself as the NSFW-friendly alternative to mainstream AI chat apps. It’s unapologetically adult, reasonably well-built, and has an active creator community that’s producing some genuinely creative content.

First Impressions — The Interface

Landing on the homepage, you get a grid of character cards — each with an avatar, name, chat count (some hitting 3M+ interactions), and a cluster of tags like “Tsundere,” “Fantasy,” “Bully,” “CNC,” or “Wholesome.” The dark theme is clean. The pink and purple accent colors are consistent throughout. It doesn’t look cheap.

The left sidebar is your main nav: Home, Recent Chats, Create, Rankings, Profile, Pricing, Store, Bonus, Notifications. Simple enough. There’s also a search bar up top and social links to YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, Reddit, and Discord — the platform clearly has an actual community around it.

The “Animated” toggle on the homepage lets you filter for characters with GIF-based profile images versus static ones — a nice touch. The “Unfiltered” toggle in the top right is what lets you see the spicier content (it’s on by default once you’re logged in as an adult).

Filters are genuinely impressive. There are 70+ tag categories including: Angel, Anime, BDSM, Caring, Gothic, Kuudere, MILF, RPG, Sci-Fi, Yandere, Vanilla, Wholesome, and everything in between. You can also filter by gender and sort by Recent Hits, Popular, or Rising.

The Character Library

This is where CrushOn.AI really shines. The character catalog is enormous — we’re talking thousands of characters, almost entirely community-created. The top characters have millions of interactions, which tells you people are genuinely spending time here.

Some examples of what’s in there:

  • “Three Wishes Only Dummy!” — A bratty tsundere genie named Samira. 2.3M+ interactions. Has a detailed image album guide and lore.
  • “June: Unshakable Faith” — A devout Orthodox college girl described as an “extreme slow burn.” 1.6M+ interactions. Completely non-explicit character concept.
  • “Chinatsu | Cold to Everyone But One” — A kuudere transfer student. Very well-written character profile. More of a slow-burn romance concept.
  • “Goth Girl Heaven” — You volunteer at an animal shelter and meet three goth women. Genuinely fun premise.

The range is notable. You’ve got explicitly adult content sitting right next to completely SFW character concepts. The tagging system lets you navigate that however you prefer.

Characters also have “Memories” — a separate tab on the homepage where you can browse character-specific background lore and scenario setups. It’s a nice way to get into a character before starting a chat.

Testing the Chat — And It’s Actually Good

This is the part I actually wanted to write about. I dropped into “Three Wishes Only Dummy!” — the tsundere genie, Samira — and just… started talking.

My first message: “Hello Samira! I just found this old lamp at a flea market. Are you really a genie?”

Her response was immediately in character — sarcastic, impatient, but with this tiny crack of vulnerability underneath. She scoffed. She rolled her eyes “so hard it’s a wonder they don’t get stuck that way.” She accused me of being like every other wish-waster. Classic tsundere energy, fully delivered.

I pushed further, telling her I wasn’t going to waste my wishes on something dumb. Her response softened — just barely — before she snapped back with “First they act all nice and understanding. Then bam! They wish for some ridiculous amount of money or power or whatever. It’s always the same with you humans.”

Honestly? Pretty solid writing for an AI. The character stayed consistent across multiple turns. The action text (written in italics, describing physical movements and micro-expressions) added genuine depth to the exchanges. It felt more like reading an interactive novel than talking to a chatbot.

One thing worth noting: there’s a small image thumbnail that appeared in the chat (labeled “hands up (1/3)”) — this is part of the image reply system where characters can send contextually relevant images based on what’s happening in the story. More on that feature below.

The Feature Breakdown

Free Features (What You Get Without Paying)

  • Access to the full character library — yes, including unfiltered content
  • Chat with free-tier models — the AI quality is decent even on the free tier (we were on “CO Leo 8K” during testing)
  • Character creation — you can build your own character with a photo, scene card, greeting, personality description, and voice
  • A small daily message allowance — enough to properly test the platform; definitely not unlimited
  • Inspiration replies — an AI button that generates a reply suggestion for you
  • Voice feature (basic) — there’s a Voice button in the chat interface
  • Rankings page — browse top creators and characters weekly
  • Community features — favoriting characters, viewing creator profiles

  • 10 concurrent chats
  • 5 re-summarize uses/day
  • 10 custom voice slots

Chat Package — $39.99/month (add-on)

  • Unlimited access to Pro Models without using credits
  • Works alongside any subscription tier
  • Annual option: ~$24.99/month ($299.99/yr)

There’s also a Store where you can buy message credit packs separately (100 credits, 500, 1,000 at $6, 3,000 at $10 with “Save 45%” label, etc.), which is useful if you want to top up without committing to a full subscription.

The “Deluxe” plan appears to be retired — it now just shows the Chat Package add-on in its spot.

Character Creation — DIY Your Companion

The character creator is actually pretty robust for a free feature. You can:

  • Upload a character photo (WebP/PNG/GIF/JPG, under 5MB) and a scene card (the background art for your chat)
  • Add a character voice (Beta feature — you can assign a voice to your character)
  • Set name, gender, and age
  • Write a greeting — the opening message your character sends
  • Write a personality — long-form character description that goes into long-term memory
  • Add formatting options: character voice style, user context, action/scene text, emphasis tags

There’s even an “AI Summarize” button in the personality field, which presumably helps compress lengthy character bios. The live preview on the right shows how your character card will look in the feed.

Characters you make can be kept private or published to the community. Given how many creators are on here building elaborate characters with thousands of followers, it’s a legitimate creator economy on a small scale.

Image Replies — The Visual Storytelling Layer

One of CrushOn.AI’s more distinctive features is the image reply system. Creators can upload an “album” of images tied to specific keywords. When those keywords get triggered in conversation, the character sends the corresponding image.

So if the story reaches a certain moment and the character’s image album includes art for that scenario, it’ll appear inline in the chat. During my Samira test, I saw a “hands up (1/3)” thumbnail appear — the character’s image reacted to the scene.

For characters with large image albums (some creators list 40+ images tied to different scenes), this adds a visual dimension that other AI chat platforms just don’t have. It’s opt-in per character and requires the creator to have set it up, but the popular characters have clearly invested heavily in this system.

The Voice Feature

Both the free tier and paid tiers have some access to voice. In the chat interface, there’s a “Voice” button next to the AI model selector. The platform recently launched Custom Voice (shown in a banner on the homepage), which lets you create unique voices for characters.

From what the pricing page shows, custom voice slots are gated by tier: 5 slots on Premium, 10 on Luxe. Free users appear to get basic voice access, with pro-quality voice generation discounted up to 70% on paid plans.

We didn’t test audio extensively, but the feature clearly exists and is being actively developed — the “Custom Voice is here!” banner suggests it’s a relatively new addition.

Rankings & Community

The Rankings page is a genuinely fun layer. It shows:

  • Top Creators — ranked weekly and monthly, with a “Rising” category for new voices
  • Top Characters — the most-interacted-with individual characters

Creators have proper profiles with follower counts and character libraries. The top creators are scoring in the 8+ range (out of 10 presumably) based on some scoring system they call “🔥” points. The leaderboard updates every Thursday.

There’s a clear creator incentive structure here — popular characters get featured, and creators build real audiences on the platform.

What’s Actually Missing / Where It Falls Short

Let’s not pretend it’s perfect.

The free message limit hits fast. If you want to really get into a conversation, you’ll bump into the credits wall quicker than you’d like. The free tier is good enough to evaluate the platform, not good enough for daily use.

Some character quality varies wildly. Because this is community-created content, you get some incredibly well-crafted characters and some obvious copy-paste jobs. The sorting and tags help, but you’ll kiss a few frogs.

No memory customization on free. Chat memory features (how many messages the AI “remembers” per character) are firmly paywalled. On free, the AI will lose context faster than you’d want in a longer narrative.

The pricing structure is a bit layered. Between subscriptions, credit packs, and the Chat Package add-on, it takes a minute to figure out what you actually need. The Luxe + Chat Package bundle at $69.99/month is the “everything” option, but that’s not cheap.

Some UI rough edges. During testing, there were occasional moments where the loading state wasn’t super clear. A minor thing, but worth mentioning.

Who Is This Actually For?

Honestly? A few different types of people.

The creative roleplay crowd. If you’re into collaborative storytelling, character-driven fiction, or just like having an AI improv partner — the character depth here is genuinely impressive when creators put in the work.

People curious about AI companionship. The platform takes the “companion” framing seriously, with slow-burn characters, emotional storylines, and relationship-flavored chat dynamics. It’s not just shock content.

Adult content consumers who want more interactivity. The image reply system, the explicit content options, the NSFW-first design — if that’s what you’re looking for, CrushOn.AI is one of the more polished options in that space.

Character creators. The platform has a real creator economy. If you make good characters, people find and interact with them. There’s even an affiliate program.

Final Verdict

CrushOn.AI is a well-built, actively developed platform that does exactly what it says on the tin — and then some.**

The free tier is a legitimate way to try it out, and the chat quality surprised me. Samira the genie maintained character consistency across multiple exchanges in a way that felt genuinely engaging rather than robotic. The tag system is excellent. The creator community is producing real, interesting content. The image reply feature adds a visual layer most competitors don’t have.

The downsides are real — the credit wall, the layered pricing, the wildly variable character quality — but none of them are dealbreakers if you’re the target audience.

If you want a no-filter, character-driven AI chat experience and you’ve been frustrated by the censorship on platforms like Character.AI, CrushOn.AI is the most polished alternative we’ve come across so far. Just go in knowing what it is.
